Pirate Coffee — a specialty coffee roastery based in George Road, Salamander Bay. That means we don’t just serve coffee, we roast it ourselves — award-winning, mindfully sourced and full of flavour. You can buy our beans direct from the Roastery, or if you’re a café, restaurant, hotel or office looking for a better brew, we’ve got wholesale supply too. We roast on site, ship globally, and already partner with a bunch of great venues — but we’re always open to taking on new accounts.
What do you love about being a part of the business community in Port Stephens?
We love that people here show up for each other. Local businesses helping each other grow, real conversations over coffee, and community over competition. There’s something about doing business in a place where people wave at you in the carpark and ask how your morning was. It makes everything feel more connected — and more human.
What are your 3 best features and benefits?
- You’re allowed to be confused, but we’re not a cafe* – we’re a Specialty Roaster — we roast our epic beans, freshly here on-site, win awards, and focus on delivering premium quality and a range of flavours to suit different palettes! (*some of our biggest customers are restaurants and cafes!)
- We use Coffee to bring people together! Beyond being a social enterprise – (we put $$ back into men’s mental wellbeing via our impact partners) in December a dream was realised when we opened our new HQ in George Road with a vision to create a Community hub. Gordo from BG Unicus built us an incredible shared table from a piece of timber sourced locally, which is the heart of our space. We’re proud to invite you in to grab a brew, have a chat, play the guitar, or just hang out. Everyone’s welcome.
- We’re your local Barista Toyshop. In our retail space, alongside take home beans, we’ve got an impressive and growing line up of gear — from espresso machines and grinders to barista tools. If there’s something you need, hit us up. We just might be able to save you that trip to Newy! Plus – stay posted, we’ve got a few fun plans in the pipeline with some classes coming up!
Why did you join Business Port Stephens?
As a family we always lean in. When we first arrived in the area Damian jumped on the BPS committee, ran Soccer coaching and Tracey helped out at Fingal Bay Nippers and Jupiter (youth counselling). We believe local businesses grow stronger together — when everyone leans in together we all benefit. Being part of BPS helps us connect, share and keep building something that gives back to the region.
Shout out to your favourite local businesses(es) in Port Stephens?
We’ve got a massive soft spot for Moonshadow Cruises — they’ve supported us from the early days, and we love what they bring to the Bay. If you’ve never done a whale cruise with a Pirate Coffee in hand…well, we highly recommend it!
And if you’ve been following our socials, you’ll see we’ve built on the fun of whale season with our very own Pirate in Residence program – featuring local photographer, Colin Sheringhams incredible images on our Port Stephen’s “Wally” roast packaging snd product marketing showing off the beauty of our home
